Solution · Warehouse & Logistics
Dry storage,
protected goods
Humid air is the most expensive stowaway in any warehouse: it causes metal to rust, packaging to soften, and stored goods to "sweat" – often unnoticed until the damage is done. DÖLCO keeps the humidity in halls, logistics centers, and outdoor warehouses permanently in the safe range. Stationary systems Made in Freiburg.
The problem
What humidity does to a warehouse
Humidity fluctuates with every door opening, every temperature change, and every new batch. If it exceeds the critical range, an invisible process begins that attacks the value of goods, machinery, and infrastructure.
The solution
Address the cause, not the symptom
Instead of fighting damage after the fact, DÖLCO systems keep the humidity constantly below the critical threshold – fully automatic, demand-controlled, and designed for continuous operation.
Expertise
Corrosion, dew point & reference values
Atmospheric corrosion of steel requires a thin film of water on the metal surface that acts as an electrolyte. This film only forms above a critical relative humidity – for bare steel at around 60%. Above this, the corrosion rate rises steeply; below it (at about 50% or less), the rusting process practically comes to a standstill. Salts and dirt can shift this threshold downwards – a reason to maintain a safety margin.
Relative humidity alone does not explain condensation damage. The decisive factor is the ratio of surface temperature to the dew point: if a component or pallet cools below the dew point of the air, water condenses directly on it – even if the room air appears only moderately humid. Classic case: cold-delivered goods meet warm hall air. Keeping humidity low lowers the dew point and removes the basis for this effect.
For dry storage, a target corridor of about 45–55% RH is considered robust – low enough to prevent corrosion and mold without unnecessary over-drying. The method depends on the temperature: in temperature-controlled halls, condensation drying is the most economical; in cool outdoor and cold storage areas with a low dew point, adsorption drying shows its strength. DÖLCO dimensions systems based on hall volume, air exchange, and moisture load.
